Wild birds can be surprisingly good. I'm not much on squirrel though. Too much like a rat with a bushy tail.

However, If all hell ever actually breaks loose, I'm sure I'll be a happy squirrel consumer. Have .22s. Will travel.

hehe thats another thing i shoot alot but dont eat.

rats. i think i posted a pic somewhere on here of the biggest one ive got this year with my varmint getter.

All solid state equipment - computer chips, transistors, etc. - can be fried with a very small amount of voltage. Red dots are operating with less than 12 volts, so the circuits would be fried at something around double that. The EMP from a nuclear weapon can cause very high voltages across these circuits and fry them unless they are protected by a Faraday shield. Essentially that means surrounded by a conductor that is not attached to the device.

    ^ right.

    sounds easy in theory.... lol.

really gonna suck for those of ya'll with pacemakers.

speaking of pacemakers, anyone ever want to make a nuclear battery? I dont think you can find radium anymore huh? tritium could work witha bit of imagination.

having been married to a Cajun girl for 30 years, I have eaten quite a variety of wild critters. Snapping turtle and Nutria comes to mind, not to mention tons of crawfish and rice!!! It sure tastes good though! Oh, and to make Black Bird Pie it takes around 30 Black Birds ( just in case you wanted to know)
seeeeeeeeeee thats what i b saying black bird pie just another way to keep the black bird down:1zhelp:

EMP is probably the least likely thing to ever have effect us realistically. I hardly see where going nuts to protect yourself from them is worth any effort.

You have a better chance of being fried by a rogue solar flare.

    Waste of time.

But 3/4 of the men in America will no longer have access to their porn....

i would say the best defense against EMP / solar storms would be to become amish

You can make a faraday cage out of just about anything with rigid structure. All you have to do is wrap it in foil(more layers=better) and run a ground wire from the foil into the earth. Ideally your ground source would be a copper rod like they use to ground lightning rods. Drive it about 6 or 8 feet under and run it to whatever you want to enclose and protect. Most people also don't realize that EMP waves will bounce off of the earth and back up to the surface. You definitely want to fully encase anything you care about. As far as solar flares go, Nasa used to have an article posted on their website about the 2012 solar maximum but that was back in 09'. I guess they decided that it is more important to keep the GP in the dark about it rather than leave it on the site. Personally, I think if our government sees it coming, they aren't gonna say crap to us about it.

Copper mesh is simpler and easier to work with. As we both have referred, special attention needs to be paid to any "leak" locations when addressing either EMP or RFI concerns.

Oh shit, I didn't even think of that. Now I know what to put in the bug out kit...

For those with a need, you can purchase commercially available products that have copper mesh woven into flexible bags. You can even get these bags specifically sized to hold laptops, cell phones, or just about any device you need to put in them. This kind of thing does have its practical side, because think of how much information relevant to your life that is contained on a laptop or external hard drives, and they're a lot easier to carry around than boxes of files, manuals, etc. Heck, all the manuals for my guns I keep as .pdf files on my laptop.

EMP, electro magnetic pulse, affect computer or other magnetic components.
I really dont think red dots have anything in them that can be screwed up by magnetic pulse.
Call Larue and ask those guy. They Know all about that kind of stuff.
"That's why, no matter what, all my guns keep iron sights even with optics.
I do have a couple that has no place for iron sights, but I have other that do.

Why not just get a non electronic scope like an ACOG or just a regular riflescope? There is nothing an EMP can do to them.

SHTF like that is really one of the only instances where I would think people would be busting out the battle rifles besides range or hunting. This is why I would never buy an electronic scope like an aimpoint or eotech. Just the chance that an EMP could render them useless is enough for me. The main point for me owning a battle rifle is really bad stuff. If my sight gave up on me during SHTF that would be gay.

You should also remember batteries may become hard to obtain for those electronic sights if SHTF.

Just remember, you never know when we might get hit, so start keeping your laptops in storage now.......

A lot of good those laptops will do when there is no WiFi, no power grid to recharge, etc. Four hours of playing Minecraft when SHTF hardly seems a worthy justification for buying an ESD bag. ;)

    Y'all crack me up!

Sometimes I wish we'd get nailed with an EMP. No laptop, no Blackberry, it would be a freakin' vacation!

I'd just have to figure out how to keep some ice cold for my drinks with no fridge.
