Does anyone have any experience with trying to stop a standard .22lr? I am wondering how many inches of phonebook will it take to stop it. Opinions welcome.

22lr is not something to be taken lightly. I have made several medium size hog kills with a 22lr. As for penetration depth I don't know.

Thickest one I could find at the house was 400 pages. Had my doubts and sure enough it failed miserably.

The .22 is still a serious projectile.

I filled an 18 inch square box full of old magazines to use as a back stop / target holder one weekend at my dad's place. My 10/22 easily put rounds completely through it like it was not there. We had plenty of empty land behind us, but I was amazed at how much penetration the .22 LR had. Obviously the box of magazines would have slowed the rounds a bunch, but they came through with plenty of force.

A phone book ain't gonna cut it.

Added a baby name book to the test.

Top group was WWB hollow points

Bullets were found about 320 pages in but damage went about 600 pages.

Bottom group was Federal lightning LRN.

Billets went through both books, 2 were found on the ground in front of tree, third is probably imbedded in the tree.

Doubt it would have held up to more than a couple more shots with the hollow points.

I wanna do a test with CB shorts now, need more books.
