For what it's worth, I did have a coworker that sold a firearm 2 years ago and he got a bill of sale. Apparently the firearm must have been used in a crime after he sold it while it was in someone elses possession. ATF did just reach out to him because he bought the firearm new and he was the last recorded owner. He showed them the bill of sale and that it was sold and that was it.

Would the outcome been the same with the ATF if he just told them he sold it without any record? Probably, but may have involved a few extra calls/visits to get to that point would be my guess?

I don't get part anybody doesn't understand, if you sell said gun to joe blow that you don't know, you can ask him if he is a felon and he can say no, so he can't legally buy a gun so he comes to an individual to buy. That's you, he lied. now had you known he was a felon, you wouldn't have sold to him.
NOW, you get a picture of his drivers license and a signed paper to cover with serial number of the gun on it, now you can cover your ass and show it to the cops.
Now if he will not sign the paper and allow you to take a picture of his license, send his ass on down the road.. Problem solved.

Great theory, but that is not how the legal system works.

The more evidence you have that links you to selling guns to a criminal, the worse it gets for you.

When doing BOS, make sure to have a unicorn fart glitter onto it so it is imbued with extra protective force field powers.
