Husband carries a Glock 27. He gets to the range a bit more than once every quarter, not as often as I shoot haha.

I carry my Ruger SR40 every day. It is an accurate pistol, fairly light with 15 rounds in the mag. But it looks like Ruger is no longer going to support it since the American pistol came out.

Judging from the mountains of expended .40 caliber brass at our range, I'd say the caliber is alive and well!

I shoot 40 cal, carry a Glock 22 on occasion and reload the round. It's staying viable around this house!

I just bought a Khar in .40 because it was dirt cheap. Function testing it this past weekend was the first time in a few years that I've shot .40

It does deliver more energy than a 9mm, but I think the difference in terms of human tissue damage from hollow points is minimal. Shot placement is obviously more important. As for range shooting, I don't see the point of a 40. I shoot 9mm if I'm practicing accuracy and if really want to shoot a bigger caliber, I'll pick the 45 acp.

I shoot .45 and carry a small .45. But a .40 is still a serious round. With the prices low, especially with police turn-in pistols, it's still a good round for self defense and at a low initial cost. I see nothing wrong with it.

One thing about 40 that I have experienced over the years, is I have never had an ammo induced problem with my 40 handguns. However, with 9mm I have had several handguns over the years that did not run good and/or had ejection issues with certain brands of 9mm ammo.

What brands exactly? Out of all my 9mm (I own quite a few), I've yet to encounter a malfunction with any of them shooting factory new ammunition. The brands I use are Blazer Brass (I no longer shoot these), Fiocchi, Sellier&Bellot, and Magtech. For self defense I've tested about 200 - 300 rounds of federal premium 124 gr standard pressure, have yet to experience any issues whatsoever.

The smaller the cartridge, the greater likelihood of a malfunction it seems, 22lr semiautos are the most likely, and 40s and 45s are least
