    ..,

    ...When I see the flag it's a reminder ...
America fucked over the natives, the Africans force to come here, the Chinese and the (insert favorite immigrant minority ethnic group here) to be what she is today.

While you choose to have those thoughts every time you see the flag I and many others have different feelings that are just as valid. The sad part is so many who choose to have those feelings you expressed in the quoted post and others never actually experienced the things you mention, which is part of the greatness the flag represents.

Sure, Americans have the luxury of walking around bitching, griping, and complaining about how good they’ve got it. But really, who wants to be around people like that?

    ————————
    I AM THE FLAG

I am the flag of the United States of America.

    My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
    Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom. I am confident.
I am arrogant. I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
    My colors a little truer.
    I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
    I am worshipped - I am saluted.
    I am loved - I am revered.
    I am respected - I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy.
Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I was there. I led my troops.
I was dirty, battleworn and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled in the streets of my country.
And when it's done by those whom I've served in battle - it hurts.

But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of earth and
stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have born silent witness to all of America's finest hours.

But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battle field,
when I am flown at halfmast to honor my soldier,
or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,

    I am proud.
I am the flag of the United States of America.

Throughout the history of man there has been conquest and many people suffer for it. Searching for a society that hasn't been built on the suffrage of others is as futile as dreaming of an Utopian world. As long as there are people that want what others have and more neither can be obtainable.

The flag to me is a symbol of an ideal and a representation of what I believe is the greatest country on earth. It's not perfect, but then neither am I. I can't change it's past, I can only hope to help it's future.

    Therefore, I'll stand.

Let’s say you drive a company owned vehicle for work and they have a policy about political bumper stickers but you want to put your Bernie sticker on , are they restricting your 1st Amendment Rights?
You can go ahead an put it on, but you also are putting your job in jeopardy

Same thing with the punk assed, over paid, wife beating, BLM, NFL players who protest the national anthem, US Flag and Military of which I am a veteran.

For that matter. Let’s say you’re a high profile officer of your company. And you something that pisses off the majority of your customer base... what really happens...

Not to drift too far off the topic, I'll only address a few things. Slavery was only an accepted practice by those that did the enslaving. The spread of slavery to western territories was one of the key causes of the Civil War, so obviously slavery was a hot button issue back then and not simply an accepted practice.

Yeah their countrymen might have assisted in the slave trade but that doesn't take away from the situation. I would imagine the Africans that did assist didn't have the means to build ships and have the resources to have a logistical network capable of transporting millions of people around the world for over 200 years. This is where you get into blaming the victims. Blaming Africans for the slave trade is a bunk argument.

I'm not blaming people living today for what happened hundreds of years ago. What I'm saying is to understand the historical reasoning for why some might choose to not publicly celebrate the US flag or the national anthem. People love to say well that's all in the past, let it be. If that's the case why celebrate any national holiday or even study American history.

It's not a standpoint I agree with on all fronts but I can understand why people have the feelings they have about the issue.

If (and that's a big if) white people are the targets of discrimination today then where do minorities fit into that picture? Its comical to say that a system of discrimination that was designed and implemented by white has backfired on them and now they're the victims. It makes no sense.

Minorities dont run the government or Wall Street or the educational system or any other institution where racism can be enacted. If whites are being discriminated against today then truthfully they have to look at their own people. Affirmative action was simply a response to right past wrongs and give minorities a fair shake (supposedly) at opportunities that had been historically denied to them like housing, business opportunities and education. Whether it's still applicable today is a topic for debate and should be the topic of a separate thread.

What a crock of poopoo. Minorities dont run government? Seems we just went through 8 years of the first minority president. 8 years of the slowest growth in our history. Eight years of controversy and rising racial tension. Right now the FAA is scrambling to correct what Obummer enacted to allow more minorities to get jobs as air traffic controllers. The higher you scored in your experience and knowledge the lower your chance of getting a job. It was even stated this was done to allow minorities and or those with lower levels of education preference in getting these positions. It was Obummer that gave Iran, a country that routinely shouts Death to America 150 billion in cash. It is Obummers open boarders policy which has brought in the fastest growing violent crime spree by immigrants. It was Obummer that added 11 trillion in debt to this country in 8 years which WILL bring in an even more painful economic downturn than happened at the end of the Bush years. On to "Russian Colusion". It was the Obummer administration that "pushed the reset" with Russia. It was the Obummer administration that sold 20% of America's uranium to Russia. It was the Obummer Administration that relaxed sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea. It was the Obummer administration that allowed Russia to invade Ukraine, one of the NATO allies and did nothing. It was the Obummer administration that "drew a red line in the sand" in Syria and said he wouldn't allow Assad to gas his own people then did nothing when he did. It was Obummers policies that befriended historic enemies while straining relationships with historic allies. This all happened in less than 8 years under the guidence of a minority. This country has not seen the racial divide it is going through since the civil war. I guess what I'm trying to say is I have no problem voting for a minority WHO IS QUALIFIED" but dont try to tell me its all the white mans fault and minorities were not running government. Obummer never so much as ran a lemonade stand. Yea, I know he was a senator from Illinois but look at his record there, he did NOTHING, mostly only voting present so people wouldn't know his true socialist and racist ideas. If you want to put up a truly qualified candidate like Conde Rice, Lt. Col. Allen West or even Dr. Carson I could probably support them. My dream ticket would have been Lt. Col. Allen West and Michelle Bachman. They have proven to be more qualified than most anyone regardless of race, and a hell of a lot more qualified than Obummer. People both black and white fell in love with the idea of electing a black man with the idea of trying to prove they weren't racist (supposed white guilt) or because they were racist (we got a black man in office, we gonna get ours now). The right minority could have done so much to improve race relations in this country. I actually believe Obummer has set race relations back 50 years or more and has hurt chances for the next minority candidate. People both black and white are seeing now how much he hurt this country. BOTH SIDES ARE GUILTY of playing the race card and unless WE as a country don't get over it, it's not going to end well.

True, now look at his mentors. Frank Marshall Davis, a self proclaimed racist and communist.

Rev. Wright, another racist who preaches hate against whitey and God damn America.

Bill Ayres. A white guy, true but another socialist/communist who's group the weather undergtound bombed government offices and police stations. Ayres helped Obummer launch his political career

I could go on for a long time listing people in Obummers life who'd like nothing more than to tear down the government AND this country. People that had big parts in guiding Obummer into the presidency.

I never said they couldn’t set rules requiring them to stand, I’m expressing my opinion that it’s bad policy and is not consistent with the freedom that the flag stands for. I support the freedom to sit while the national anthem is played, just like I support the freedom to own and carry a firearm.

They are no more being forced to stand than they are forced to wear a helmet during games. They can quit anytime they choose to. They are adults who agreed to when they signed a contract.

    Yup.
That’s like saying I’m forced to do my job.

    Players have a choice.
If they don’t like their job, with a “stand for the anthem” job description, then they can choose to go elsewhere.

The first problem that I have with the kneeling is that it is based on a false narrative (i.e., black lives matter movement). And other ways exist to promote their "cause" that would be less offensive.

Those who disagree with the kneeling need to do two things: don't send any money the NFL's way; speak out in a positive manner.
The problem is there's really not much conviction. Most of it's for the cameras. This is all a result of diversity, To be in diversity you have to label yourself different. What they need to do is stop whining about being different and assimilate.

I had worked there nearly a year and had risen to the number 1 salesman position. Between pay and bonus I was doing good.

    I was also in college.

I went to see the boss and told him I could give him 40 due to my schedule that semester but I could give him 38. He leaned back in the chair and said I did not know you were a college student! Yes Sir. Well 38 is fine, but my policy is ALL college students get paid min wage.

Boss I can't do that, I make good money here, I can't take that kind of a hit!

    Well those are my rules:

OK boss, enjoyed my time here, pay me thru today and I am gone, thank you for the time I was here.

I turned and walked out the door, never looked back...

Not a good tike for me either: It was Jan, had paid apt rent and school fees, car payment and bought my books, but I was now dead broke. and had Christmas bills, car payment and apt rent coming up 1 Feb.

But a buddy of mine sees my car and takes note of my new convertible top and asks who installed it? I said I did, how much to install mine? I said the Chev dealer gets $175 plus $75 for the top total of $250, I will do it for $175 incl the top. And that launched a business I had for the next 5 years that paid my way thru college and all my bills to boot...that was my first company.

This is about money and noting more.

Jerry initially read the political winds incorrectly, and himself took a knee before the anthem to protest Trump, linking arms with players.

NFL fans reacted quite negatively, and he did a hard 180.

The league is still dealing with their decision to believe the MSM and their anti-Trump rhetoric.

They quickly learned that their fan base was largely comprised of the silent majority that voted for Trump and his policies.

This has nothing to do with the national anthem or the flag. It has to do with their perception of injustice and the fact that they are on national tv so they can show it off to the whole world.

I don't care what their reasoning is, it's about respect and as employees they need to show respect or get out.
