Why does anyone need a Corvette?

It's a slippery slope once you start singling out what others can and can't have - as most everybody in here is aware.

That analogy really points out how well gun control works into socialism. Guns provide the ability to resist, and no one can be allowed to resist The State. Only those in power can have guns - or Escalades, or big houses, or whatever. The rest of the people are expected to share the pain. Socialism works great in an ant colony; not so well with intelligent creatures.

My freedom requires NO justification to anyone.

"I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal?" -Dennis Leary

Actually, you should have said "Why does anyone need a unicorn?"

"Assault weapon" is a fictional phrase, just as the unicorn is a fictional animal.

You can't prove that. Unicorns are real, damnit!

I don't *need* an assault weapon. But they're flippin' awesome and I want as many as I can collect. Like Pokemon. Gotta catch 'em all.

Gotta say, my AR-style converted SKS with a 75-round drum full of 7.62x39 hollow points is pretty sweet. Am I gonna use it to shoot up some police, or somebody's church, or little Timmy's soccer practice? No. So everyone needs to keep their dirty Obama-voting, Prius-driving, liberal hands off my toys.

I dont use an assualt weapon, as these are illegal for citizens to have as a general rule. I use a modern sporting rifle that goes bang once with each pull of the trigger. I like the fact that I can change uppers for differnt shooting situations, target and game. I don't have a M-4, M60, M2 you see mr story writer you get the whole story wrong. It's just a modern sporting rifle, no an assualt rifle, please get your story right.

    To reiterate, folks:

"Assault weapon" is a fictional phrase coined by the antis (the same as "high capacity magazine").

    Nobody actually has one.

    Nobody actually owns one.

Please stop confusing it with "assault rifle", which is an actual term and means "A rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use."

Every time you use the term "assault weapon" (or "high capacity magazine"), you give the antis another pat on the back.

If for whatever reason someone tries to kill me I'm going to NEED to stop them ASAP if I want to continue living. That should be a no brainer to everyone that has ever taken a breath. In that situation I'd like to have the best tool for the job and know how to squeeze all the use I can out of it. There's nothing sporting about saving your own skin. There's nothing defensive about the actions you need to take to stop a dangerous person from killing you.

If you stop looking at a scripted reality and start looking and analyzing real shootouts and real defense scenarious stuff gets bad very quickly. It's also like a switch flips on in the heads of almost everyone who is involved. A switch that makes people suck at shooting. 10 shots is never enough when you keep missing. On top of all that, especially when pistols are being used, someone that initiates an attack usually isn't going to be shrugged off by being shot one or two times. There are plenty of cases where someone has been shot a dozen or more times and are still able to bring harm.

If the police need it, I need it. They may end up in bad situations more often than I, that just comes with the job. But any law enforcement professional will tell you that they never know when they'll end up in a scenario like that. I don't know either. It could be a disgruntled ex-employee that walks into my workplace and starts shooting people. That actually happened to my mother. I could look at a gang member wrong. I could cut off a psychopath on the highway. I could be standing in line paying for gas when a robbery occurs. I could be asleep in bed when a serial killer breaks in.

That's just one reason why I need these "assault weapons".

Salutes to you. We do hurt our case when we use their terms, besides it's just a 5.56 not a elephant gun.

The whole "sporting" terminology is such a joke. That whole push to define guns in a "sporting" theme, as well as the federal code out there having to do with "sporting purposes" is all a big joke. Sporting is a fun thing you can do with some guns, but it is not a valid reason. Bottom line is, guns in general are made for one thing and one thing only.......KILLING. Lets not beat around the bush. AR15's are made for killing, namely the badguys, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think the whole "sporting" terminology does us all a great disservice as it allows people to mistakenly think that sporting is a necessary justification for firearms. This allows some people to forget that not all killing is bad, and sometimes the good guys (us) need to kill the bad guys, which is not always a bad thing. That's all the justification we need, even though we really don't need any since it is a civil right after all.

+1. I agree. I think it doesn't help us in the long term to beat around th bush. Most rifles today have some basis in a military gun. Why do I want one? Why wouldn't you want one. You can do EVERYTHING with it. Kill animals (sure there are probably "better" guns out ther for some animals, but most of the cartridges out there today are way overkill for the rodents they call deer in Texas), ultimate SD guns, and just cause its so damn fun gun. Mind your own darn business.

A lot of people out there have no idea why anyone would want to own an AR type rifle. many of them even like guns or hunting. They look down at us. Thats why you get the whole, "only mass murders would. . " BS.

+2. Going along with "sporting" terminology is a trap. It's a weapon.

I don't know about you guys, but I've never killed anyone with any of my weapons, nor do I plan on it...

However they would come in handy in the case of being outnumbered 3 to 1 in any threatening situation...
