The talk I heard was of M&P's in .40 or .45 but who knows. Could be they go to another 9mm because money talks. I think they'd wind up with new guns anyway, as they've started to phase in optics and weapon lights and their older guns were not optic cut.
I swear, half the time it's some sales guy schmoozing a desk jockey with a free cruise to the Bahamas and bam: new manual of arms for all.

Pshaw, I might have to eat my words. Went shooting today with my BIL, SIL, and wife, and I found my P365 to be snappy compared to my wife's Glock 43. Everybody shot the P226 well, and raved about it, but I thought my SIL was going to drop the P365 when she shot it (yes she was dangerous, and thank god they are going back to Idaho on Saturday). I found the Glock 43 easier to shoot (ya, I know what I said). That is all.

I found the 365 X Macro to be jumpier / snappier than the Glock 43X so it tracks that a standard 365 will be snappier than a Glock 43. Was bummed because X-Macro feels good in hand, is a good size that brings concealability to capacity and capability - but damned it just didn't shoot like I would've liked. Not as accurate for me as the Glock, and snappier? Oofs.

Right now I'm toting either my wifey's Shield, or my Glock 34. I got crazy and traded my Glock 17 and 19 for a boat. Gives me an excuse to replace the 19 with a gen 4 19 MOS at some point.

But the 7.62 NATO (.308) is the most effective round, be it in a bolt action sniper rifle (M24), semi auto counter sniper rifle (M110A1), battle rifle M14/21), or machine gun (M240B). The 5.56 is just pea shooter that fuelers, mechanics, clerks, cooks, and others carry. I mean the 5.56 was made for the Air Force to have light rifle, with no recoil, because they were not strong enough for a .308… like the SEAL’s with their M60E4’s and Mk48’s in 7.62. You can’t spell Wimp, without an MP, and the weakest MP’s have 5.56 M249 SAW’s not M240’s or M134’s in 7.62 like direct action units.

(This like a tolling threat right?…).
7.62 NATO isn’t even full power .308. It’s wimped down.

.223 and it’s even more powerful nato cousin had nearly twice the muzzle energy of 7.62X51. It’s a scientific fact. Might as well use a sling shot. We learned long ago the .30 cal bullets were inadequate first with the failure of the 30-06, then they tried to fix and improve it with the .30 carbine which was still too weak. And finally the underpowered 7.62X51. Eventually they realized they needed to just get something that works. And the Airforce (the only service requiring more than room temperature IQ to join) finally had enough and stepped in to make sure a useful cartridge was chosen because they were tired of wearing out their aircraft providing CAS due to the ineffectual .30 cal cartridges the other stupid services kept choosing.

    Facts.

I’ll give you a real valid answer from a guy who runs a rental only high round count range in Las Vegas…I bolded the best parts but it’s all worth the read…

Spoiler…Glock haters may need a handkerchief and their security blanket…LOL!

The background for the high round count is that we are rental-only range one block off the Las Vegas Strip (called Battlefield Vegas) and after all the talk about AK's, I completely spaced on the reliability of the pistols we use on the line everyday of the year except for Christmas. We go through approximately 150,000-180,000 rounds combined of 9mm, .45, .50AE, .500S&W, .38 Special, .380 and 9mm Makarov each month. I don't count .22 because even though we go through 1,000's of rounds, it's not in the same class as our standard calibers.

I can tell you that even though I am not a "Glock guy", it is the most reliable handgun in our inventory and I would trust it with my life. We use Gen1-Gen4 17's on the line and they are the most hassle-free handgun we have. I used my original Gen1 17 when we first opened two and a half years ago and it finally broke about six months ago. When I say broke, Glock's pretty much are the only handgun that suffer a "catastrophic" break. The slide cracks right at the narrow portion at the ejection port. They will continue to fire most of the time but the rounds group at the top right corner of the target. The factory recoil springs are amazing because the just keep going. The Glock gets used probably 10X as much as our Beretta M92's so it's not a fair to say the Beretta is more reliable (see below). We don't use aftermarket slides on our Glocks so I couldn't give you any info those because Glock will replace our cracked slides under warranty. Also, I don't meant to give the impression that breake slides all the time but it would be fair to say that they get at least 100,000 rounds before cracking.

My personal favorite, the Sig P226 doesn't fair as well. We go through more recoil springs in our 226's than any other weapon system combined. We've yet to break a slide but they will not function with a broken recoil spring.”

A recoil spring is a wear item.

How many P226 kabooms have you heard of? It’s pretty common with Glocks.

Agree, a friend has the X Macro and just raves about how great it is. I got a chance to shoot it about 3 weeks ago , surprisingly snappy for what it is and that was disappointing. I won't be giving up my Beretta 92x compact anytime soon.

Yep. That’s why my state that still has over 30,000 or so issued to law enforcement, corrections, and probation sent out at least an email a week warning us they may blow up in our face. The two sheriffs I worked for actually apologized to me for making me carry one.

    Damn shame.
