This was interesting to hear about. Clearly this virus is no joke and clearly we’ve all got our jobs cut out to mitigate risk and go on with our lives in informed consent.

I am not scared to hear about how serious it is. I don’t need to pooh-pooh it away and still can be brave and reasonable (mostly).

I’m very glad I’m not in NYC for a multitude of reasons.

    Did not know that. Thanks.

However, wouldn't the UV in the sunlight also kill off viruses? In the truck, I usually sandwich the mask between the window and the reflective sunscreen.

The UV would, but it will stop at the outside of the first layer of cloth. UV will only neutralize microbes in the air or on exposed surfaces.

I don’t wash my mask, haven’t yet. I just leave it alone for a few days and I figure the virus can’t last very long. I have a few I’ll rotate.

I’m not even really wearing a mask to protect me. The virus gets into tear ducts, right? So, really, if we are that damn serious about it, we need goggles too?

I’m wearing one to protect others in case I am asymptomatic. That’s the whole main reason for the masks, right? They are better for keeping your germs to yourself?
If you really want to protect yourself from it, you need a face shield and a respirator mask that forms an effective seal. To be really serious, you'd want a full face mask that makes a solid seal around your entire face, and has a positive pressure unit to ensure air always flows out.

The whole thing with telling people that wearing masks is to protect other people is that it is just giving people something to do to feel like they are doing something. Surgical style masks only provide minimal protection to others from you when you're breathing lightly and speaking in a soft voice. Breathing heavily or coughing will make the droplet-laden air stream go right around the mask and leave you with nothing but a false sense of protection.

This seems to be a well-written piece on the overall phenomenon. https://lovebreedsaccountability.co...king-you-meaner-dumber-more-afraid-less-safe/

The virus is going right through your mask (assuming it is not a medical mask) along with your breath.

The best data has shown this virus has no higher mortality rate than the flu.

Do we take the same precautions every flu season?

Doctors' mistakes kill anywhere from 250,000 to 350,000 each year. Do we avoid all surgeries and treatments?

Vehicle accidents kill 40,000 a year. Do we stop using vehicles?

    Keep this in perspective.

While a powerful message, I think 43 should’ve kept his whore mouth shut on the subject. Former presidents, like children, should be seen and not heard.

Can you name any president who has kept a lower profile out of office than W?

No, I did not think so.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell.
WTAF does Fauci have to do with voting this next round?
    I say "absolutely nothing":
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/corona...ee-in-person-voting-in-november-will-be-safe/
Fauci needs to STFU. He has been consistantly wrong about this whole thing.
They already have a way to see if it will be dangerous. Use the voting logs.
I know at least in Texas they keep track of the names of those that vote in person. Contact a sampling of names on the voter logs and contact them. How many got sick from Covid?
At least one state voted in person and could figure about how bad it would be. I'm guessing not any worse than going to Walmart......

Really good macro-level view of rona impacts and responses across the US put together by thick-glasses economists. Texas is rated as Low Risk, ranks 41st in deaths per million, has had relatively lower unemployment rates, and our re-opening plan is better than most.

The people that put this together did a really good job of explaining how they came to their conclusions and trying to balance true severe outbreaks, policies, and the economic impact of those policies.

I "sterilize" my cloth mask by spraying it with Lysol after use and hanging it from my rear-view mirror in my truck. After a week, I run it through the washing machine on warm water. If that's not enough to kill a virus, then nothing will.

Not long ago during one of the corona briefings Trump had some guy from a federal viral lab (I don't recall his name and I think he was from Ft. Detrick) where they have been studying what wil kill Kung Flu. He said alcohol and soap kill it, UV light will kill it quickly, and heat over 75 degrees with humidity over 40% will kill it in about 1.5 minutes. Basically the virus is pretty fragile out side of a host (you).

Keep in mind cloth masks and paper surgical masks will not protect you from getting covid or any other virus. These masks are to protect other people from you should you cough or sneeze while you are infected whether you have symptoms or not. The number of people who have had covid without showing any symptoms are many times more than those that have symptoms, at least that's what the brains are saying now.

I think my daughter had it in December. She had a nagging cough that lasted a few weeks and tested negative for flu. I think my best friend died of it in January.

OMG, sorry to hear that about your friend. Maybe the 100 degree Texas summer will cut down the numbers?
