I'll concede That I'm old fashion. The reason I like the Heritage is the looks and the ride of a softail. I worked out the need for speed when I was younger, it's more about comfort for me these days.

The thing is since the late 70s early 80s everything GM and Ford have produced were shit... look you want to talk down to me that's your perogative, but I've taken apart engines all the way down to pulling the cylinders out with the head off covered in grease... I understand your love for CLASSIC American Cars.. but they havent BUILT them like that since they learned about something called planned obsolescence.

I'm not using ad hominem attacks.. I'm speaking to the argument.. if you want to talk down to me do it somewhere else you'll end up on my ever expanding ignored list of ignorance that can't be dealt with because IM BUSY. I'm just saying Harley hasn't built a quality product in 4 decades and they overcharge for what they produce.. MUCH LIKE GM and Ford.. I'm sure when you were my age.. you know.. back before my daddy thought about me, they produced good quality stuff, they don't anymore... I'm sorry it pisses you off. Don't take it out on me.

LOL piss me off, you don't piss me off, I just look at you and shake my head and laugh, there goes some MiliMan poor mouthing stuff he has no idea about.

Not only are you poor mouthing American products but you do in an ugly fashion, you could have cleaned up your statements but you went on an attack, like being hell bent for leather. Did not hear me poor mouthing Jap stuff, in fact I rode Yamaha and Honda before I rode a Harley, my first Harley was in '94. I have no issue with Toyota-Lexus and my Iszu truck went 36k miles problem free, in fact wish I had kept it, would be useful here on my place.

You make a lot of blanket statements showing me you have no idea what you are talking about

I have noticed you Mili folks are not real big on America, lot of you don't like capitalism and a whole bunch like Socialism.

You might be a little happier somewhere besides Ft Worth, I lived in Tarrant County, in fact I retired to a little town there called Colleyville, nice little town enjoyed my years there.

Is saying "millennials don't like them" speaking to the bikes or millenials?

Both? I am just saying millenials are not customers for HD and they need customers. Will soldiers buy cycles? Yeah but they are not your typical millennial either. Are the newer HDs better? Yes they are. Better enough to charge a premium over Japanese cycles. Nah, you buy the lifestyle at HD and a young 20 something male in skinny Capri pants doesn't want that lifestyle.

I've owned two, an old sportster, and an old 3 wheeled Servi-car. Neither impressed me. Undependable, leaky, etc. I've rode my son in laws FatBoy many times. I like FAST dependable motorcycles, and Harleys are neither! Only thing I liked about em were the SOUND! And the idiots at Harley tried to get the sound trademarked! I shit you not! The courts didn't agree, of course.
It would be a simple matter for HD to build their engines to run smoothly and quietly, but that would be a bridge too far for them. "Iconic" is NOT the word I use to describe a machine that is a vibratory nightmare and is louder than it need be.

Full disclosure: I've got a GL1800 and an R1150GS. The day I got hurt I was riding an R1200RTP and attempting to make a traffic stop.

I would agree! I remember the day I bought my Harley and threw my leg over the saddle and then I understood...it's a Harley thing, you may not understand. One thing about Harley riders is they are a patriotic group of people. LOT of military vets, lot of Vietnam vets and a lot of people from ALL walks of life that share a common bond.

I loved my Harley and wish I could still ride but my time as a misspent youth playing in the Bowl game, Hanoi Tech, Vs Saigon U, left me with some on field injuries that came to haunt me a few years back and I had to give up my beloved Harley.

On vibration, what year are these vibratory nightmares you speak of? Is my bike loud? Yes, on purpose. It isn't so loud that I break city ordinances, but it will let you know I'm there. I wouldn't say it's any louder than a Dodge Hellcat.

. . . and I don't like the Hellcat either. LOL. I don't like loud machines. And silencers should be legal.

I'm a true believer in loud pipes save lives, I want people to hear and see me.

But the sound is behind you. If your cruising, nobody hears the pipes until you pass them or they pass you. It's quiet out front. They don't hear you approaching but they definitely hear you if they're behind you. I don't have too much trust in loud pipes. Old ladies in Toyota Camry's don't hear or see anything, anyway. Loud pipes or not. They'll run your a$$ over. Or people pulling a trailer.

Harley builds their machines to be loud on purpose, they can easily create a vibration free design, but the Harley market doesn’t want that, and they would get crucified for it.

THEY DID, You just weren't paying attention.

The iconic sound comes from single pin crankshaft and V-twin configuration... there were reasons for it... creates a passive dry sump system because both pistons travel downward at the same time, pressurizing the crankcase and forcing the oil into the oil tank.
They DID create models without that design... like the VRod... now discontinued and replaced by the Street Rod. The Revolution engine is water cooled, dual pin, quieter, smoother and lower emissions than traditional HD twins. It wasn't well accepted by their customers, and new customers didn't buy into it a lot because they were hung up on what they thought Harley was. They tried.

You would like the Vulcan S then, stock muffler was quiet enough you could hear a mouse fart.
