Welps, I will definitely be getting my LTC and keeping $200 on me.

IMO, getting an LTC is a good idea. Like most here, I got mine before CC passed. It is cheap ($40), the class is cheap (I paid $50), and the shooting test is ridiculously easy. An LTC bypasses background checks for buying firearms from FFLs. Some face to face transactions, sellers may ask for an LTC. Some places will discount their FFL transfer fees for LTC holders (mine does). States that are worth visiting recognize a Texas LTC. I have used my LTC at the voting polls as ID, kind of a pain in the butt, but legal.

Well said. Though we are now a CC state, I will always keep my LTC. No reason not to really.

Please point to Texas law which shows this to be a felony. I couldn't find that law but maybe it is there.
Good question. Can't find it right now. But in September, it was all over all those presentations by pro-2A agencies and businesses (such as TXLawShield etc). If I find it, I'll post it.

    30.05 (https://texas.public.law/statutes/tex._penal_code_section_30.05) says:

All offenses under 30.05 are misdemeanors, class A, class B or class C depending on various things

The law also makes clear that there are a pile of exceptions, but they're pretty specific. You have to get tossed because you're carrying a handgun. If they toss you for another reason, then your LTC doesn't help you. If you have your LTC but weren't carrying at the time, or weren't carrying concealed, they CAN toss you.

So if you get busted under 30.05 AND the reason they busted you was because "entry with a hangdun is forbidden" then if you have an LTC and were carrying concealed at the time, then you are immune to prosecution.

    Hi all,

I recently took a job in Austin and will be moving to Texas in a month.

Yes I'm from California, but don't worry, I'm one of the Pro-2A guys who is escaping from the socialist republic of CommieFornia. I'm part of the CalGuns community, CRPA, NRA-ILA, and have made regular donations (with little positive effect on my 2A rights unfortunately).

I made the decision to move last year after visiting a gun store in Dallas. The store was called Riflegear, and I actually found out about it because RifleGear has a location in Southern California where I used to purchase many firearms. I went into the store and was amazed. It was huge, posh, and had basically all of my dream guns that are practically banned for purchase in California due to the "safe gun roster".

I looked at two of my dream guns, a HK VP9 Match, and a HK SP5. When the guy brought the guns out of the case, I was in awe, handling the guns, hearing the slide rack back. He said, "If you have your Texas DL, and a credit card, I can have you out of here in 10 minutes." Hearing that, I almost cried. No 10-day "cooling off" period. No handgun purchasing limit. Just pure unadulterated Pro-2A FREEEEEDOM!

But alas, it was not to be, I hesitantly told him I was just visiting Texas for a wedding and I just wanted to see the guns since they aren't available in California. He looked at me, kinda smiled, and said, "Well, time to move to Texas now, right?"

And I agreed with him, whole heartedly. I started my job search in November 2021, and I got a job offer a week ago to a great organization which offered me a great position in the city.

I'm still a month away from living in REAL AMERICA, but I just wanted to introduce myself, and remember, even in places like CommieFornia, there are some serious Pro-2A people who have had their rights stripped away and want to get them back badly. Appreciate what you have Texans, NEVER ever let the progressive left take an inch, because if you do, they will take a mile. Look at California as an example where Pro-2A patriots are treated like criminals and 2nd class citizens. We aren't even able to purchase Gen 4 Glocks (Canadian citizens can purchase one with zero issues). That's how bad it's gotten in CommieFornia.

Austin may be the most liberal city in the Gulf South outside of New Orleans. We call it "The People's Republic of Travis". But there are plenty good folks there and a really great gun-shop, "McBride's" Texas laws have proscriptions which neuter the local gun grabbers. There are some ranges, including "Red's" in South Austin. You'll like it fine. Speak with our member here, "CycleGuy", who is very familiar with Austin.h

Welcome to the South and to Texas !

Mcbrides went down hill many years ago and is not even in the top 10 of best gunshops in Austin. Red's south doesn't exist anymore thankfully. It was bought out and under new management. Reds North is by far the worst gun range I have ever been too. Bullet holes in every square inch of the place not down range. Don't go to Reds period.

Thank you, I was depending on old memories from the 1990's.

There's a gunshop pretty much nextdoor to the old Reds south location. Since I'm a idiot I don't remember the name or if it had a range.

Welcome to the South and to Texas !

I've been to "The Range" in South Austin, one of the better indoor ranges I've been to in Texas. Super clean, nice gun store too.
