... but, on the other hand, don't get too hung up on magazine capacity. Remember the law of 3; armed altercations predominately happen at 3 yards distance, last only 3 seconds, and fire only 3 rounds... So go for the 45acp... even if it only holds 6 rounds, with a 45acp you only need one round
So I think that settles it. 45 Derringer with an extra in your pocket will handle the situation. ;)

Also remember, the more guns you have, in different calibers, means more types of ammo you will have to feed them and to keep on hand. And unless you have a very deep purse, that can get very expensive, very quickly, especially in these times with limited amounts of ammo being available. This is why it might be much more practical for some people to just have several pistols that all use the same type of ammo. That way you don't have to worry about multiple calibers for your guns.

excellent point about the added expense...luckily i have zero kids and no plans to, but i do have 7 dogs...still WAY cheaper than kids :p

this is a fun hobby and probably the only expensive one i have (making stuff on my cricut is super cheap lol) so willing to put more $$ into it ... plus there is nothing better after a stressful day than going to the range!

Just for what it's worth, my wife loves shooting my full size 1911A1, but does complain about the pistol's weight after a few mags. But she has no problem with the recoil, and it's the pistol that fits her hands most comfortably because of the single-stack magazine giving it a slimmer grip. From what you've said it sounds like a commander-size 1911 might be right up your alley.

One advantage to 9mm (and really the biggest advantage in my opinion) is simply the small physical size of the cartridge. You either have the ability to have more shots before you have to reload, or to have a freaking tiny, concealable pistol that still has 8-10 rounds in a magazine. The primary advantage to .45ACP is that it's .45ACP - hell yeah.

On the other hand, right now it's hard to get any particular caliber. Being able to choose another gun to match whatever caliber happens to be available could be handy.

I know it's been mentioned but, I'll mention it again. Come out to one of the Meets/Reunions. There will be a veritable cornucopia of options to tryout. Pretty much everything from Bersa to Zastava, and all manner in between. And having the ability to quite literally compare two, three, whatever, different sidearms side by side by to each other will make it much easier for the user to make a more informed decision. As has also been said, there is quite the limited choice in available options to purchase and the ability to feed at the moment, so waiting a few more days to find "The One" (Good effing luck with that.( Normally ends up as "The*however many* as you've already found out)) won't hurt anything too awful much.

You already have, what I've heard to be, a very reliable pistol in the PPQ that you can use to train, practice with, and carry for now, at a much cheaper cost than a .45. And already having that also gives you the option of find what does and doesn't work for you, as far as where to carry on the body, and off if you are so inclined.

Go shoot a couple of .45s to see how you like the recoil. It's the caliber you Re comfortable with and not the biggest you can handle that you should carry.

Why? Because if you are comfortable with it, you will be more willing to practice with it.

    Out here by the lake!
A chick who likes dawgs, shooting & cleaning guns is alright in my eyes. And the fact she a girliegirl! An old bastard like me sees a lot of potential in this member. The offer to go out for drinks is aint bad either. She reminds me of when I met my wife 30+years ago.

I remember the day I got my H&K P9S target .45. I was dating my wife & she came over & we went to Marksman Range. I let my now wife shoot it first & she took out the X with the first shot. After the first magazine she had a tight group, two older dudesnoticed her group. The came over for a closer look & were surprised it was a women. They were almost more interested in her then my new H&K. I would suggest looking into a P9S.

    Here is a used P9S

EVERYONE SHOULD OWN AT LEAST ONE 1911 TO GO WITH THEIR GLOCKS. I OWN THIS ONE RIGHT NOW AND LOVE IT.
4 INCH BARREL (KIMBER PRO SIZE / MOST COMMANDERS ARE 4.25 INCH) This is a Kimber Aegis Pro. Shoots exceptionally well.

I WANT A SECOND ONE TOO. Kimber Pro Raptor. I think these are some of the best looking guns ever. IMO.

Yes there is an added expense to buying and keeping another caliber. Usually 45 ACP cost a little less than double what 9mm does, but lately it seems to be easier to find and about $0.10 per round cheaper than 9mm.

And my daughter makes some really cool shit on her cricut.
